Ever felt the heart-stopping hit of a Tigerfish on fly? If not you should, it’ll change your life. If you have we know you want to do it again. So here is the deal: Join The Vagabond Fly crew as we team up with Mavungana FlyFishing on the Pongolapoort Dam (Lake Jozini) to show some Tigerfish who’s boss… or at least until these beast fish run line burn into your fingers.
Definitely no wading allowed!
Jozini Dam offers the southernmost occurrence of Tigerfish and year on year catch rates and fish sizes skyrocket, so much so that we are chomping at the bit to get you there.
You’ll drift drop-off’s, weed banks and if conditions are right you could even chase tailing Tigers in the shallows.
Accommodation is land based in en-suite thatch chalets and all fishing is done from a guided skiff. Two sessions per day means you’ll see plenty of action but being part of the Pongola Nature Reserve could mean this action takes the form of white and black rhino, elephant and buffalo, not to mention the 350 bird species. This is a true South African wildlife experience.
The majority of fishing is done using between #7 & #9wt rods loaded with shooting heads and sinking lines. You’ll drift drop-off’s, weed banks and if conditions are right you could even chase tailing Tigers in the shallows.
